Bramford Flooding Prevention Update

In response to recent flooding in the Bramford area, I am pleased to provide an update on the progress of the ongoing flood prevention efforts. Several key initiatives have been completed to enhance the area's resilience to heavy rainfall and potential flooding:

  1. Survey of Pipes: The drainage pipes under Bullen Lane and The Street have been thoroughly surveyed for blockages. This crucial step ensures that water can flow freely through these pipes, reducing the risk of localized flooding.

  2. Ditch Regrading: The Flindell Drive ditch has been successfully regraded, and silt has been removed. This work significantly improves water drainage capacity, helping to prevent water build-up and overflow during storms.

  3. Resident Collaboration: Suffolk County Council and I have actively engaged with residents along the storm course to ensure they are aware of their responsibility to keep culverts clear. Community cooperation is key to maintaining effective drainage systems and preventing blockages.

  4. Landowner Cooperation: Suffolk County Council and I have worked closely with local landowners to implement measures that prevent water run-off from fields. This collaboration will be instrumental in reducing the amount of water that reaches the highways, thereby minimising the risk of highway flooding.

  5. Ditch Re-establishment: Although significant progress has been made, the re-establishment of 1.8 kilometers of ditch along Bullen Lane is still ongoing. I recognise this as a priority and I am focused on completing the work as soon as possible to further enhance flood protection for the area.

I am pleased with the progress made so far and remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the Bramford community. My efforts will continue until all measures are fully in place. I appreciate the continued cooperation of residents and landowners in supporting these essential initiatives.
