Delivering for Gipping Valley

A backyard with a wooden fence on the left, a brick wall in the background, and a drainage pipe at the base of the wall. The ground is covered with dried leaves, soil, and some green plants.

I’ve taken action to address flooding and drainage issues in Bramford by working with residents and key agencies to deliver practical improvements.

Flooding in Bramford

Map with annotations for a drainage pipeline project, showing locations on Bullen Lane, indicating where to install gullies, replace pipes, and open a ditch with leaky dams, with labels for the right-hand side (RHS) and left-hand side (LHS).
  • Restored 1.8 km of ditch along Bullen Lane and install “leaky dams” to slow water flow and reduce flood risk.

Suffolk Highways is also working with landowners along the B1113 to cut runoff from fields and help prevent a repeat of the flooding seen earlier in 2024.

A dug trench area next to a wooden and brick fence with a large drainage pipe at the end of the trench, and scattered dry leaves and small sticks on the ground.

Worked with the Internal Drainage Board and residents in Chapel Field to ensure culverts are kept clear where the storm channel runs through gardens to the River Gipping.

  • Secured regrading of the ditch along Flindell Drive, allowing Suffolk Highways to clear years of silt from the pipe beneath the road.

  • Arranged surveys of pipes under Bullen Lane and The Street, completed in July 2024.

Flooded street with muddy water, partially submerged black car on the right, houses and trees in the background, overcast sky.

  • New LED Belisha beacons were installed. These are much brighter allowing better visibility on Stowemarket Road when the sun is low. Local residents also no longer have to put up with the constant flashing of lights visible through their windows when its dark.

  • I was pleased to secure funding for the verges to be cut back. The pavement on Ship Lane had got increasingly narrow making it dangerous for pedestrians to use.

  • I was happy to support the Parish Council to reduce speeding on Norwich Road. I funded new signage and roundels to increase the speed limit awareness when driving through Barham.
